Sunshine Coast to receive new funding for domestic and family violence services

Vulnerable families and children across the Sunshine Coast will be better supported through a new Queensland Government funding as part of the Stronger Families reforms.

Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said that tenders had opened for the new local services as part of the government’s $5.1 million funding commitment to support the victims of domestic and family violence in Queensland.

The funding is part of the Stronger Families reforms, which are a key platform of the Queensland Government’s response to the Queensland Child Protection Commission of Inquiry.

“Domestic and family violence is a significant issue in Queensland,” Ms Simpson said.

“Sadly, many families who come into contact with the child protection system are also affected by domestic and family violence.

“The effects of this violence can be significant, traumatic and long lasting for children and young people.  It can also affect the ability of adults to safely parent their children.

“Our government is committed to supporting the needs of vulnerable families.

Ms Simpson said the Queensland Government would invest a total of $406 million over the next five years to better support the state’s most vulnerable families and children.

“We want stronger families across the Sunshine Coast and these new services will provide help to those who need it most.

“I encourage local community organisations to consider applying for the funding to deliver these services to Sunshine Coast families,” she said.
