Pedestrians crossing the busy David Low Way at Yaroomba will soon have safer access to the beach and bus stops as new safety works start.

LNP Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson welcomed the start of works, which are part of her strong plan for Maroochydore, after residents had raised concerns about the safety of this area.

“As part of the works, a pedestrian refuge, additional street lighting and new concrete footpaths will be installed to provide better pedestrian safety in this area,” Ms Simpson said.
“The site between Yerranya Row and Goongilla Street in Yaroomba was identified as the most suitable location for the refuge as there is good visibility for motorists and pedestrians want to cross at this location
to access the bus stops on either side of the road.”

Ms Simpson said a solution is being worked through for some residents that may have parking impacted outside their homes as a result of the works.
“I have been working with Cr Steve Robinson to provide additional off-street parking on a nearby Council easement,” Ms Simpson said.

“I am grateful for Cr Robinson’s assistance in providing funding for an additional two parking spaces for residents.”

Work is expected to start in February and impacted residents will be contacted by the Department of Transport and Roads over the coming weeks.
