Simpson to honour Sunshine Coast Women

The unsung heroines of the Sunshine Coast community will receive the recognition they deserve thanks to local MP Fiona Simpson and a host of sponsors who are seeking to honour the many local women who make a difference in our world.

Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson today launched the inaugural Sunshine Coast Inspiring Women Awards at a morning tea with representatives from local organisations who are involved in sponsoring the awards.

Ms Simpson said the Sunshine Coast Inspiring Women Awards recognise and honour inspirational women across the Sunshine Coast who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others.

“As a Member of Parliament I believe it is important to recognise people who volunteer their time and use their skills to encourage others to build a more vibrant and connected community,” Ms Simpson said.

“In the lead up to International Women’s Day 2016, I want to champion the women who make a difference in the lives of others.  Some may be well known, while others are unsung heroines, overcoming adversity, investing into others and strengthening individuals and communities.

“I look forward to receiving nominations and hearing their inspirational stories which I’m sure will encourage us all.”

Ms Simpson thanked the local business and not-for-profit community for coming together to sponsor and promote these awards. The event is being supported by Inspire Connecting Communities and Volunteering Sunshine Coast, with each of the four categories sponsored by local businesses Think Money, White’s IGA,
Suncoast Christian College and Sundale.

Inspire Connecting Communities CEO Sue Frost said that the nominees will be honoured at a Gala Presentation Dinner to be held on Saturday 27th February at 6.30pm.

“We have already received great support from the local community.  Local businesses are keen to see women recognised for all that they do in our community and they have generously sponsored the awards,” said Ms Frost.
“We are hoping to raise enough funds to be able to honour the nominees (or finalists) with a complimentary ticket to the Gala Presentation Dinner and to make them feel truly special in appreciation of all they do for our community.
