Work starting soon to make Mooloolaba roads safer

Construction work is starting soon to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians at the busy intersection with Pacific Terrace and Mooloolaba Road (also known as Buderim Ave).

Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson said that new traffic lights and signal-controlled pedestrian crossings
will be installed to provide greater opportunities for motorists and pedestrians to safety cross the intersection.

The works will include a dedicated right-turn lane from Mooloolaba Road into Pacific Terrace and will include two signal-controlled pedestrian crossings, upgrades to street lighting and changes to on-street parking along Mooloolaba Road.

Ms Simpson said that the intersection had been identified for upgrade due to the high crash rate and concerns raised by local residents about the need for a safe place to cross the road.

Ms Simpson said that the $1.5 million project was announced by the LNP Government last year and is something she has advocated strongly for on behalf of the community.

“Residents have contacted me about safety concerns when crossing this busy road to reach bus stops and the Alexandra Headland beach,” Ms Simpson said.

“The signalised intersection will address these concerns and also make it safer for road users trying to exit Pacific Terrace.”

Construction is due to commence on November 2 and would be expected to take approximately two months to complete, weather permitting.

Works will generally be undertaken between Monday and Friday, from 6am to 5pm, although some night works will take place to mitigate delays during these times.

Road closures will be in effect for Pacific Terrace and Camfield Street for a period of up to 6 weeks with a detour via Mooloolaba Road and Alexandra Parade.
