LNP steps in to boost local legal services

Liberal National Party to reverse Annastacia Palaszczuk’s cuts to Suncoast Community Legal Service  LNP understands that access to justice for vulnerable Queenslanders is an important issue  LNP to provide $5 million funding increase for Community Legal Centres across Queensland.

The LNP will deliver a $720,000 boost to the Suncoast Community Legal Service after Annastacia Palaszczuk cut funding to the much-needed service.

LNP Leader Tim Nicholls said that improving access to justice was an important issue, providing support to those in our community when they needed it most.

“Annastacia Palaszczuk’s cuts to the local service was a major blow to helping disadvantaged Sunshine Coast residents with legal advice and assistance,” Mr Nicholls said.

“The LNP will restore those cuts as part of our plan to boost support for Queensland Community Legal Centres by $5 million over the next three years.

“This is an issue that should be above politics, it’s about doing the right thing and helping those in our  community when they need it most.

“We want to increase access to justice, not reduce it like we have seen under Labor.”

LNP Maroochydore MP Fiona Simpson said that the local service needed more support, not the cuts it had seen under Labor.

“Labor’s decision was a slap in the face for vulnerable Coast residents, particularly domestic violence victims,” Ms Simpson said.

“Our local service won Sunshine Coast Community Organisation of the year in 2016 and has been helping disadvantaged locals for more than 30 years.

“The demand for these services has never been greater, which is why the LNP is investing more
funds to increase frontline support.

“This is part of our plan to provide safe and liveable communities and Build a Better Queensland.”
