New patrol vehicle to bolster Coolum’s Surf Lifesaving efforts

Coolum Beach Surf Life Savers have welcomed the addition of a brand new patrol vehicle to help keep us safe this holiday season, thanks to State Government Funding.

Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson was delighted to celebrate the handover of the keys for the patrol vehicle to Club President John Roderick.

The new vehicle was recently purchased with a $19,090 grant from the Jupiter Casino Community Benefit Fund.  The Club also received a further $8,141 this year to purchase new training equipment and improve storage facilities.

Ms Simpson said that our Surf Life Savers do a fantastic job of keeping our beaches and waterways safe and they are worthy recipients of the funding.

“We have a host of amazing volunteers at our Surf Life Saving Clubs who make a valuable contribution to the Sunshine Coast community and especially to those who visit our wonderful beaches,” Ms Simpson said.

Coolum Beach Surf Life Saving Club President John Roderick said that the Club very much appreciated the assistance received from the Queensland Government gaming fund to provide the community with the best resources for their volunteer members.

“We are delighted that our application was successful.  With the funds received we have been able to purchase a Suzuki motor vehicle which is used to perform roving patrols to Stumers Creek and to transport equipment on and off the beach,” said  Mr Roderick.

Ms Simpson said organisations within the Maroochydore electorate have benefitted from $535,820 in funding through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund and the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund in 2013.

“Just over half a million dollars has been received in Gambling Community Benefit grants this year to help not-for-profit organisations in my electorate continue to do their valuable work.”

“Surf Life Saving Clubs, Scouts, Childcare centres, Guide Dogs, Community Centres and Vietnam Veterans are just a few of the worthy recipients who have put funds to good use.”

“These groups have used the funds to purchase vehicles and equipment, update facilities, run training courses and other things necessary to support the valuable work being done by the many volunteers in our community organisations,” Ms Simpson said.
