One of the Sunshine Coast’s most loved national parks has the views, but it has no loos – leaving many of its 200,000 visitors hopping and hoping for a breakthrough.
However, relief is in sight at Mt Coolum National Park after Shadow Environment Minister David Crisafulli met with local MP Fiona Simpson and residents to commit an LNP Government to provide $350,000 to build the amenities.
Mr Crisafulli said: “This stunning national park is an icon worth protecting. We want to keep this park beautiful and also improve the visitor experience.
“These facilities will be built in an environmentally sensitive way but without them the impact on the park is just unacceptable.”
Ms Simpson said: “Mt Coolum National Park is one of the Sunshine Coast’s best loved landmarks. It has had upgrades to the walking tracks and visitor numbers have exploded as people love this park. However, the lack of toilets is negatively impacting the local environment – I don’t need to spell out what happens when the call of nature leaves its impact.
