The Federal Government’s $1.6B commitment to go halves with Queensland State Government to fund heavy rail to Maroochydore is very generous, as it is not usually a Federal responsibility to fund this type of infrastructure.
Still this State Government is late in rolling it out. The State Labor Government needs to do their job and pick up their act. Infrastructure costs are blowing out in this state because Labor mates have a favourite corridor they walk in the shadows where they get their deals done and they get paid for it.
On a side note, executive members of the International Olympic Committee have visited the Sunshine Coast recently for a tour of local venue options ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The 2032 Games represent the most transformational opportunity our region will see for a generation, accelerating the chance to deliver the critical infrastructure our region needs.
I will continue to work with my Federal Colleagues, Ted O’Brien MP and Andrew Wallace MP to fight to secure the infrastructure our region needs:
Sunshine Coast Entertainment Centre;
- Heavy rail between Beerwah and Maroochydore;
- Upgrades to the Sunshine Coast Stadium; and
- Full rail duplication all the way to Nambour.
These are important pieces of infrastructure to keep the Coast connected and provide future opportunities for the region.
